University of Iowa was State University of Iowa;
University of Northern Iowa was Normal School and Teachers College;
Iowa State University was Iowa State College and also Iowa Agricultural College;
Iowa State University was originally founded in 1858 as "Iowa State Agricultural College." By 1868, it was often referred to as Iowa Agricultural College and abbreviated I.A.C. In 1898, the college name changed to Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. On July 4, 1959, it became Iowa State University of Science and Technology.
