Anyone can walk into the ISU Library and access research databases - there is no login or ID required.  From off-campus computers, members of the ISU Alumni Association have access to a large, multi-disciplinary EBSCO database.  To get to it, go to the Allumni Association website.  Click on Directory Login at the top of the page.  When you get to the login page, click on Use EBSCO Library Benefit, on the left column of the page.  Otherwise, library databases can only be accessed by researchers who have a current ISU ID.   Iowa residents can apply for a State Library Card through the State Library of Iowa, which allows remote access to a set of electronic resources, described here:

State Library Card information can be found here: http://www.statelibraryofiowa.org/services/state-library-card
It takes around a week to receive a State Library Card once an online application has been submitted.
